I agree that Barcia is definitely fun to watch. His style is incredible. You have a good point, that he is wasting ALOT of energy, enough so that it may be costing him victories. However, he is such a new rider, it is hard to tell. It is possible that he is not winning just because he has not fully adapted to the pro scene yet. We'll have to wait until next season to see what has changed in his program. Maybe he will "calm" his riding style a bit in order to save energy.

Re: My First Double Century

Thanks Cori. I'm pumped that you found my article helpful, it makes me feel good to know that I've helped your training. Training for a marathon will be a tough journey, but it will be something you'll never forget. Good luck, let me know how the marathon goes.

Regarding the sugar in Gatorade. While I don't really like the real sweet flavor, thats not really why I avoid it. Same with the calorie content. Its not awful to drink a few calories after a hard workout. However, because I mostly am consuming electrolyte drinks while exercising, I prefer maltodextrin to sugar. Sugar burns off much quicker due to its simple structure. Maltodextrin is more complex and thus takes more time to break down, ultimately eliminating the sugar "high" and the subsequent "crash."

Re: 8 Most Inspiring Professional Supercross Bike Setups

Hey Euwern thanks for another great comment. The CRF250R definitely looks nicer to me than the 450fs, however, as a Kawi guy I must say that I much prefer the KX250f design :P but to each his own. It is awesome to see everyone's different rides at the track each weekend. That is the great thing about motocross, your bike is your bike and you can make it look how you want. I've never tried Gatorade combined with 100plus, but it looks like a nice option. I try to avoid gatorade in general because of its high sugar content, but I may have to rethink this decision in the future, as I've seen a lot of cyclists use it. I'm not a fan of Dr. Pepper, but maybe I will enjoy the taste of the gatorade/100plus mixture, I'll try it out and let you know.

Re: Is 2009 The Year that the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Nationals Make it Big?

Hey Sunglasses, I must agree that the number of both men and women who ride and race motocross has grown exponentially in the past four years, and it will only continue to grow and help the sport as a whole grow!

Re: My 2009 Anaheim 2 Experience

Hey KiteSurf, Thanks for the comment. I must agree that it is obvious Red Bull had a large play in James' online presence, but I must say I'm at glad that they got him to get online. I follow a number of famous people on twitter, and some of them are obviously more manufactured than others, overall it is nice to see what they are up to, even if it is not posted by them.

However, the best part about Twitter is that it is what you make it. So, I like following famous people, and you do not, but we can both get our own way and interact with our own communities, which is an awesome feature of Twitter and one of the reasons I think it has become so popular.

Regardless, thanks for the comment and your opinion!

Re: What is Your Favorite Electrolyte Replacement Drink for Cycling?

Hey Brock, Obviously I'm no expert in this area, but I definitely have found that electrolyte drinks help my performance. I started out with Cytomax, which was a decent choice, but I finished by tub and have since moved on to Accelerade. It contains protein which has really seemed to help recovery time. The taste is not as good as cytomax, but it is tolerable. I like it so far, but I will continue to try different brands to see what's best.

Re: Freestyle Motocross Star Jeremy Lusk Dies, Is This a Sign That FMX Has Come Too Far?

Hey Blake, I definitely respect your point of view, and I have to say that everyone who rides FMX is definitely brave and it definitely takes so serious guts to huck your bike and your body over such huge gaps. That being said, it is clear to me that certain FMX riders are much more skilled, while others are simply relying on bravery. To me, it is simply not fair that the less skilled riders are forced to ride out of their comfort zone just to compete with less skilled riders.

In addition, I do ride motocross every weekend, so I know what it feels like to be forced to do things you are not entirely comfortable with just to compete. It can be tough, and in the case of FMX, it has resulted in the deaths of some of the biggest stars of the sport.

Re: MX Sports Delays Rule Change to Allow 250 Two-Strokes in the Pro Lites Class for 2009

Hey Spotman, thanks for the comment and the compliments! I totally agree that two strokes are infinitely fun when compared to four strokes. While my current race bike is a 250f four stroke, I love riding 125 two strokes and a part of me misses the days when I rode 85cc two strokes every weekend. So revvy and fun, nothing compares to a properly tuned two stroke. Hopefully these upcoming rule changes will convince the manufacturers to continue to produce newer and better two strokes. I would love to get a 125 or 250cc two stroke at some point in the future, just to have a blast on!

Re: Freestyle Motocross Star Jeremy Lusk Dies, Is This a Sign That FMX Has Come Too Far?

Hey Brett, I totally respect your opinion, even if I don't agree totally. I understand that if FMX returns to simple tricks like knack knacks or heel clickers, then it will loose its value, however, the same can be said for the scenario in which multiple stars of the FMX world loose their lives. If too many of these incredibly skilled riders suffer severe injuries or death, the sport will suffer even greater than if something is done to make it safer. In addition, I truthfully do not want the sport to return to simple tricks like knack knacks, but rather tricks which demonstrate skill rather than just guts. Like I've set, i would love to see more natural hits and more of the new age obstacles which take skill to conquer yet will not result in death if failed. Maybe this is actually the wrong approach, and it would be more sensible to increase the level of safety gear on the FMX stars. Truthfully, I am unsure as to what exactly I believe needs to be done, yet I know something must be done.

Thanks again for your comment and your opinion!

Re: Freestyle Motocross Star Jeremy Lusk Dies, Is This a Sign That FMX Has Come Too Far?

Hey Hans, thanks for the comment, and let me start off by saying that I agree with your point of view, and that I totally agree that taking the skill out of FMX would devalue the sport. However, what I am calling for is not for limitations on the skill the riders can exhibit, but more of a change in the way the courses are designed so that skilled riders can flourish. Whether dirt hits or just new and technical obstacles, something must be done to bring this sport back to a point where skill reigns supreme.

Re: Running is a Great Way to Cross-Train, Even for Cyclists

Hey Brock, thanks for the comment. I definitely agree that running takes a lot of determination to really get good at. I can remember in Freshman year (I'm a junior), when I too thought a mile was absolutely treacherous. Thankfully, because I got in such good shape with cycling, when I began running again, I was able to increase my mileage quite a bit. Right now I'm up to about 4 miles and loving it. I doubt I'll be signing up for any 5 or 10k races though. However, I definitely want to do some cycling group rides this year to hopefully increase my speed just a bit and get used to riding in a pack.

Re: MX Sports Delays Rule Change to Allow 250 Two-Strokes in the Pro Lites Class for 2009

Hey JD, thanks for the comment, I must say, I agree completely! 2 Strokes are part of the heritage of our sport and unless something is done, they will die a brutal death in the motocross industry. Allowing 250cc two strokes to racing with 250cc four strokes is a great way to do this and also helps to make the (very expensive) sport of professional motocross more economical for privateers.

Re: About

Hey Matt, thanks for the very kind words.
