Yes, they contacted me and asked how I liked to be credited etc, so all good. A lot of countries have lost touch with the normalcy in cycling along the way.

Re: Conference Of Eight

thank you, Sean, that is so cool to know!

It was a Sunday in the Jordaan area, which is a quaint neighborhood and quiet in most parts on a day like that. 'Time' is indeed the operative word, however boring that sounds. I'd hate to see 'tribes' dominating the discourse and playing field again, too. I can even see it already happening with 'Cycle Chic', a marketing word that many people take the wrong way. So yeah, that will never really represent the real thing: just ride & show 'm how it's done :)

Re: Yanks Call ‘M Tanks

I think I know where your discussion went off course...the salesman was right about the Flying Pigeons not being safe for SF. They (and their brakes) or of inferior quality. From what I attempt to filter from your story about your discussion with him is that he mistakingly put these on par with your mention of 'Dutch style bikes'. Adding that that order must have ticked them off quite significantly, financially and regarding their reputation. It's only natural he'd then steer the conversation towards what he has in stock, he is a salesman after all. So the fact that you were being smart about your Batavus wouldn't have helped things along, you were both talking different worlds :).

I do agree that 'normal bikes' are hard to get your hands. Easy to explain with a long history of 'sporty' bikes cornering the market. Of course these stores try to jump on the bandwagon as much as they can, it will take more time for them to realize it needs more than just a few add-ons.

Yes, sure sounds like My Dutch Bike is making an effort. As with anything, people want change 'now', but that has always proofed wishful thinking. Patience is a virtue :).

Re: NL In Teh 50’s

thanks for that macfred, I noticed your plug in my stats early on, so much traffic! :)

Re: NL In Teh 50’s

I think you'd be surprised how many, Wilma, I would too :)

Re: NL In Teh 50’s

now now, Frits, that's a bit cynical isn't it? I know post-war economic growth has eluded us on many fronts. And sure, the last few decades people's decision-making process has been steered by policy measures that range from economic ones to urban design, but shouldn't we applaud the fact that we've come to a place where nobody thinks less of it, people actually enjoy riding and that this is still growing? Last year 12,5% more people cycled to the train station and since 2007 there have been more bike than car movements in the Amsterdam.

Re: Yanks Call ‘M Tanks

Last weekend I met someone at lunch from SF/My Dutch Bike who's doing a trainee ship at Workcycles :).

I say: go for it!
