We discussed this post on a podcast I'm doing for our local bloggers guild. Commenting on other posts cannot be overstated. And as another side benefit, you can make real connections with other actual people.

Re: louisgray.com: Christian Science Monitor Covers Twitter's Secret

I think you hit the nail on the head when you pointed out that customers are going to expect it to remain free. Would I pay for Twitter? Maybe, but it would have to be very small. But the other side of the coin, it's usefulness would drop as others decided not to pay and dropped out.

You get what I mean? Twitter is useful because so many people are there. It's not about whether one person alone would pay. It's about whether everyone would pay and keep the network large.

Re: FeedDemon continues to add value – Shared Link Notes

I am enjoying FeedDemon as well, mostly due to your recommendation. It ran two seasons (6 eps X 2 seasons = 12 eps + 2 Christmas specials). It's great if you like British humor. Also, sometimes the geographical references get lost on Americans. I had no idea on a couple of them. But it's absolutely worth it for Ricky Gervais' David Brent. He is PERFECT as the guy who thinks he's smart and cool and hip and has no idea that he isn't. This is one of my favorite clips: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ye1C8vMqbHA

Re: The Office: Michael and Dwight Strike a Nerve

The British version of 'The Office' was very different from what they brought here. Our version is more traditional a comedy show whereas the British version is just, well, uncomfortable to watch. And that's where the humor comes from. Make no mistake, I love them both, but for different reasons.

Last weeks 'The Office' was very British. It was so awkward that at least twice, I wanted to change the channel or leave. But I couldn't. I kept waiting for David Brent to show up. In the end, I found myself really hating Dwight (and I know we're supposed to, but he is just an evil character) and hoping Michael would do the right thing. But Michael is spineless and easily manipulated, so of course, the names are off to the National office. At least there's the karma of the car wreck, I suppose.

And yes, Hilary Swank...not hot.

Re: File Archiver: 7-Zip - Compact your crap!

I'm a big 7-Zip fan. I actually paid for WinZip a couple versions back (in the 90s), but eventually, you had to buy a new version to keep it legal. Enter 7-Zip. Great program.

Can I assume you use other great open source stuff like Filezilla for your FTP needs? Lots of good stuff out there for no cost.

Re: iTunes replaces one evil with another

See what I mean? (I'm referencing my earlier comment about Apple-hating being too easy.)

I used to buy tracks from iTunes, but iTunes kept randomly deleting tracks from my library and Apple kept denying the problem existed. Best move I ever made leaving them. If I buy a track now, I buy it from Amazon as a good old mp3. Hell's yeah.

Re: Boy does Apple know how to give it to the fan boys

I love it. Then you wouldn't have to edit the widget in the backend of WordPress each time you wanted to change. Just a thought. I just wrote about a post about comments over at http://www.patricktalkstech.com/2008/12/28/is-t...

I agree. Comments are the place for discussion. Twitter reminds me of old Internet chat rooms. Basically, 500 people standing around, all of them talking, but no one really listening and responding. The only difference is Twitter doesn't have the occasional a/s/l appear.

I enjoy Twitter, but more as a time waster and not a place for serious discourse.

Re: I hate winter

Well, you are in Canada. :)

Re: Don’t you get it yet? And I don't want to be. I like the freedom to post whatever I want about anything and it's purely my completely biased opinion and could be totally wrong. Journalists are journalists. Calling bloggers journalists is like calling my wife a hairstylist. She has clippers, heads to cut on and is pretty good. But she's not a professional.
