People have been making money with blogging for a long time - either directly or indirectly. It gets janky when there's no transparency. I didn't like the idea of (nor did I participate in) PayPerPost, mind you. Heck, even when I buy or believe things outright, I still get accused of being a shill. *shrug* I decided to use the money on somebody else, and had fun doing it. If someone wants to hate on me because of that - it's not my problem. :)

Kinda not sure what to say, other than I thought my site was going to be under the "camera whore" link. I mean that in a non-narcissistic way. I'm supremely pissed off that it wasn't, but... eh, you can make it up to me the next time we meet. By then, I'll be namedropping with the best of 'em! Oh, did you see my tweet about who I had lunch with the other day? It was amazing, and you weren't there.

You're in this for the right reasons, and for that reason... you'll continue to succeed. You may live down under, but you're on top in my book. Not that I would know if you happen to be someone who likes it on... nevermind. I'm outta here. Gotta find a place with more ego.

Comparing to IM is like comparing Apples and Oranges, I do have a lot of IM accounts, but IM isn't a community like pownce, plurk, twitter, are, IM is a communication tool like email or phone. Social networks are communities, and communities are not blind posts, and ignoring the comments replies, and questions you receive to your posts

Thats the problem I have with services like ping.fm its not a two way street like these networks are meant to be, and your by far not the only person to do, and with more and more networks coming around, I feel I've fighting a losing battle

Interesting perspective, albeit short-sighted.

You assume that everyone who might have a modicum of interest in something I might pass along is only interested in the same services I'm interested in. What, then, do I do if 4 people want to follow me on Plurk? Do I force them to use a network they'd rather not use? You're thinking of the paradigm completely bass-ackwards.

I have people who only follow me on MySpace. I don't like MySpace, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't publish there if they're giving me the opportunity to do so - and if certain friends only wish to follow me there.

I signed up for the services to keep my followers in touch - and for no other reason. How many IM accounts do you have? Rather, do you use an IM client like Pidgin? Why not make your friends communicate with you through one service (AIM) over any other (Yahoo, MSN, Jabber, etc.). Do you only communicate to "Jabber" friends?

My identity is central to myself, but these various services splinter my ability to centralize my interests and perspectives online.

You have to think about this a biiiiiiiiiiiiit more before making wild-eyed accusations.
