It will definitely demonstrate that it's easy to be reckless and even easier to be too conservative when trying to build a winery. The true challenge is finding the sweet spot where, as a winery owner, you grow just fast enough to prosper.

No kidding, it can definitely be used as an educational tool for people who may not entirely appreciate the challenges of being responsible for all winery operations.

Re: Our #1 Fan

Yeah, the COPIA site being sold certainly sounds promising; I'd be curious to know who the "interested parties" were. My wife and I were JUST DISCUSSING the AT&T "more bars" tagline this very morning, and how it was incredible BS. BTW, I hear you're in Cali next week, might you be stopping by the WBC in Santa Rosa on Friday? Would love to see you there.

Re: Murphy (Goode)’s Law

Wine AND icing...we'll call this week's show the Wedding Episode. :)

You got it. All you can ultimately do is entertain yourselves - the show will then find its complementary audience.

I learned that in film school. If something made me laugh in editing, and repeatedly, then it always found a receptive audience in class or at an outside screening. More genuine and...heck, more fun...than trying to predict market tastes or trends.

Cheers!

Re: Murphy (Goode)’s Law

Todd, you're very generous! I like to think that we primarily aim to entertain, the fact that the interview was both broad and deep was just icing for us!

Re: Report Card For Social Wine

Intensely curious? Well, that's easy enough to remedy...

I'll be applying for the Murphy-Goode position...which I heard about on Twitter. Which led me to the VinTank white paper which I also found out about on Twitter. Then I saw on the Murphy-Goode Facebook page that you were hoping to have Dave Ready, Jr. on this week...etc. (Looks like that is going to happen now? Two thumbs up.)

I have a solid understanding of Social Media in the advertising/marketing world and am just digging around to see what the challenges are with regard to the wine industry...the biggest hurdle appears to be the current legislation re: shipping to different states.

I also have a background in (college) radio and totally appreciate your efforts here. :) Keep up the great work!

Re: Report Card For Social Wine

We intend to cover the controversies, indeed. Just lazy about seeking comment from the players involved in the controversies.

Thanks for the kind words, I know Paul appreciates it, after the death march his team has been on to produce it.

Of course, the fact that you are listening and seem somewhat outside the normal listener profile makes ME intensely curious! Thanks for listening, and I hope we keep it interesting (if not entertaining) for you.

Cheers!

Re: Full Frontal Confession! Alice and Wine Writing Ethics

Alice, what an amazing confession! The fact that you avoid spelling out _his_ name makes it almost comical in the self-censorship department. Almost like "utter not its name, lest you summon it."

At any rate, if I ever pick up the tab for a meal with you, would it be forward of me to expect both your body and your approval? I'd hate to foul up years of therapy, but I just gotta be me.

We need to have you back in Sonoma for another visit and interview. Perhaps I'll bring more than one microphone.

Cheers!

Re: What You’ve All Been Waiting For, Part 2

Don't be sad, Bob. I'll update the home page to show how to add WBR to your iTunes podcasts in a few short steps.

Re: tumbléo

You are all kinds of perky and upbeat today, Leo!

Re: Wine Blogger Love!

Hey Rick,

Perhaps you didn't notice the "[link]" text, which has a link to each blogger's site.

Anyhow, I get criticism if I put the link on the blogger's name or on the "[link]" text. I know that people have fallen on either side of this episode (either that this show was awesome, or that it flogged an already dead horse past the ground meat stage). Since I'm primarily concerned with being entertaining, having a rather solemn and deep discussion about a topic as dry as ethics (and let's face it: few things are more sleep-inducing) is a bit out of the old comfort zone.

Re: A New Paradigm!

GarNAcha! Hey, it was an excellent time, we're very keen to make radio stars out of all of you guys! We look forward to hearing about the EWBC and how it went. If I ever do make those Wine Biz Radio t-shirts, I'll have to find a way to get one to our European fans, in order to spread the good word!

Re: Chicago, My Kinda Town

Thanks for your comment!

I just checked the Radio Wine Club URL (http://radiowineclub.com) and it's just a SHELL! It basically has no podcasts on it!

So, I'm sorry that we promote a podcast that doesn't really exist yet. I'll make sure to give a ribbing to our buddy James M. Berry at the radio station to get him in gear posting shows!
