Let me rephrase - has your experience made you change the way you approach interviewing european startups now so that you use your time more efficiently. Will you do more background research prior to agreeing to meet?

Re: World-brand-building mistakes France’s entrepreneurs make

Scoble: So given how much of your (and other American journalists') time was wasted - does that make Le Web not suitable as an event for American journalists going forward? Will you be going back next year?

Re: World-brand-building mistakes France’s entrepreneurs make

Sounds like that negates a large part of Scoble's post. Really it all boils down to whether the companies in France want to enter the US market - does that mean they need to communicate the way US startups do.. I think the answer really has to be yes.

Also not everyone needs to be on Facebook and Twitter today. That is like saying everyone needs to be on Myspace a few years ago - and I think we'd all agree that not everyone should be on myspace today. If the people you need to communicate with (or they need to communicate with you) are there then you should be there. Otherwise it is a waste of time and money. Given these are cutting edge internet startups though - I dont see how the majority should not be on Twitter.

Of course, none of that excuses Scoble's behaviour..

Re: Things I talked about on twitter (TITAT)- Selling cereal

actually I think having a diverse marketing/sales team is more of a benefit (assuming a base level of skills is achieved). Therefore answering more questions over time in return for being able to read an article might be a good way to go. It would result in the ability to provide more targeted advertising which is more revenue for the newspapers..

Re: http://blog.louisgray.com/2009/08/to-jump-on-massive-unfollowing-trend.html

the problem with twitter therefore seems to be that it is beneficial to not be too popular..

Re: my 10 favourite wordpress plugins

Meaning that people left your site rather than continuing to browse?

Re: What Publishers Could Do (Condé Nast)

there is one other big fear that as every day goes by becomes smaller and smaller.. ad dollars. Before they feared that moving online would cannabalise on their offline print ads.. pretty serious stuff as the revenue from print ads is much much more than online.

Of course every day the revenue from print ads decrease as the readership falls.. leaving only one place to go. online.

Re: Would you pay for the NY Times?

It is an interesting topic. It has great value to the local individual - the only downside to this is that in the UK these papers are mostly free (ad funded obviously). I am guessing that is because the greater distribution gained from being free leads to greater advertising revenues. I am sure there is an equation somewhere which links audience size vs advertising revenues in the news publishing world.

The problem right now is we are in this void where some are still reading local news offline and others are reading it only online. Local businesses who advertise in these local papers have been difficult to pull online so far, but local papers have the sales force to attract this advertising online quicker and so have a head start on others.
