I tend to look at the FT, Business Week and Economist rankings to get a feel for the quality of the schools.
Finding out the strength of the alumni network in the region is probably a good idea too.

Thanks for reading.

Re: Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation.

Hi Amal,

I don't think TOEFL scores are mandatory.
I don't think you need to mention your plans to apply for the scholarship. My experience has been that the partner schools will usually write to you about the Foundation on being accepted.
I am afraid I don't know what the monthly stipend is as I don't personally know anyone who accepted the scholarship.
I am not aware that the foundation favors certain nationalities or sexes over others.

Good luck with your applications.

Re: Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation.

Hi S,

They do send rejection emails as far as I know. The time it takes for them to respond seems to vary but was between 1-2 months for those I know who applied.

Best of luck.

Re: Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation.

Hello Nizar,

Thanks for reading.
I downloaded the application from the MBR website and sent it directly to the Foundation once I had been accepted to the business school. I believe that once the committee start meeting again, they attempt to convene on a monthly basis to review applicants (this was how it worked last year at least). Those I know who received scholarships were awarded them late in the Summer so the dates mentioned do seem plausible.
I was also told last year to apply regardless of whether the school was an official partner school or not (as long as it was a top rated school).

Make sure you call the Foundation to confirm they have received your application when you send it.

Hope this helps.

Re: Boxee Survey Results

would love an invite.

Re: alt.MiddleEast.

agreed about a site that really allows for proper deep digging into the vibrant arts scenes in the region with insight / commentary and relevant news on events etc. haven't heard of andraos but will check her out.
other sites worth checking include http://www.bidoun.com and http://brownbookmagazine.blogspot.com/

Re: Where will all the MBAs go?

CBS's Glenn Hubbard weighs in on the future impact of the current Wall St crisis for MBAs:

A question that may be on your mind is “Does financial services need to shrink?” There will be job losses and exits, not only with the firms that have exited but probably more. But I have considerably more optimism for the medium term in financial services, and there are three simple reasons for that:

 1. The global phenomenon of an aging society puts pressure on the demand for a whole variety of financial products and services. This isn’t as well developed as it should be in the U.S. or the U.K., let alone in many emerging economies, and the number of return income vehicles, insurance products and so on will increase.
2. Many of the big emerging economies are improving their domestic demand, which will generate a huge demand for financial services as they exit from the state provision of services to the market.
3. The overwhelming forces of globalization and the demands for international finance. Anyone who says that the financial sector is going to shrink out of business has not been through these cycles before.

Re: Where will all the MBAs go?

That was quick: the enterprising fellows at First Round Capital have setup a self-explanatory website called Leave Wall St Join a Startup.
