well, hard-core techie is such an extreme thing in general (i.e. abstracted out of gender/sex concept)... I work in team which has next to 100% kernel engineers/hackers and all of them do that on *razor blade thin* hardware, i.e. product should be desktop but fit in pocket, and yes, their kernel should work for that little piece... I must say that we have that kind of atmosphere "wanna run with big dogz? learn to pee on big trees" and many boys had left team... girls never applied for job - I asked line manager, he said NONE ever. We have certain share of them but not in kernel/core team...

looks like English has to make certain transition again - word "blogger" should be used for people without engagement, while rest should be renamed back to "journalists" (and treated exactly like them)... at least there is hope these *pseudo bloggers in fact PR or media* start to think again about copyright and other DMCA stuff staying with axe behind their career...

I have really weird idea, but... It came to my mind during reading last few paragraphs. What if it somehow mapped/correlated with SL hardware requirements for 3D video card? ;) I remember when I had been going in-world, I couldn't meet certain friends because one of them had PC broken, and buying another one with _particular_ video card (minimal, after later check). Once they bought it, it looked odd for them to buy anything since "a lot of money had been spent already on SL"...

I don't think it is that straightforward - IMO they are given sort of last chance, and yet... kept as separate asset (it doesn't matter, open- or closed source, public entity or private equity) - easy re-evaluate at any moment.

(this is only MY opinion and it has nothing in common with whatever comes from my employer, directly or implicitly) - I tend to believe that Symbian won't be S60, and open sourcing it is not about pushing it to the future. Open sourcing is new slang for ... slow downsizing on minimal costs :)

@Mandy Marseille I recommend you to take some relatively serious course on networking and try to work as admin for few years at middle size ISP (preferably cable/DSL one in developed country/locality) in technical position, before you make those lousy statements "1 IP address per login"... this is the only feasible way to get reality check and gain some knowledge on how many users can *legitimately* use from behind NAT of home gateway

Ahem... While tourist as concept may be only implicit in SL, it is reality for ages in Active Worlds. And honestly, if Linden Lab would be dare enough, they would make that concept as basic reality from first entrance too. But then it would be difficult to <strike>manipulate</strike> adjust percent rate of neofits into Church of Immersionism... argh, I mean level of regular visitors statistics for VCs and prospective corporate customers :D

Здесь речь была скорее о тех, кто долгое время даже не задумывается, есть ли ему что скрывать или, как вариант, считает своей тайной соершенно другие (чаще всего практически безобидные вещи/события/итп)... а потом настает время Ч - и по нелепой случайности человек попадает "под каток" казенной машины. Только потому что он где-то когда-то что-то сказал/написал... Похожий сюжет, хотя и гиперболизированный (для вящей ясности идеи), в фильме "Враг государства" ...
