We used to be able to set per-comment thresholds that would hide comments after X negative votes but that has pretty obvious problems so It's not surprising that they removed it.

Re: Why Comments Matter

Disqus has the beginnings of a reputation system. It knows how many comments you've left, where you've left them, and if they've been 'liked'

But it could and should do more with this

Wouldn't it be great if you could sort every comment thread by commenters you like and comments that were well liked up front?

Disqus has part of that today and can build this out

Re: Why Comments Matter

The WSJ currently has filters which can grey or hide completely certain kids of comments. Not in love, makes certain kinds of conversation hard to track. Other blogs, notably abovethelaw.com, every comment is anonymous. I dpon't think they plan on changing it, their reputation is staked on keeping everyone that way as the tabloid of the Major Law Firms and the Major Law Schools.
The filter should be what is useful versus the dumb

Dymanic Karma systems work better. Disqus definitely seems to have the beginning of a Karma system, it just needs to be worked out a bit better.

Re: Why Comments Matter

Hacker News has an interesting model. A reader could select to filter out any comments from a paricular ID vendor or comments not connected to a 3rd party ID vendor. I also think that Disqus (which I use on my company's 32 newspaper sites) needs a reputation system.

Re: Subscribe by email? We currently have all of the sites listed as separate weblogs under one Disqus account and I would assume that we'd add the new WPMU-powered blogs to that account, also. The Disqus team has been very helpful with scaling issues in the past.

Re: Disqus plugin with WordPress MU?

You can add all the newspaper sites to one account. It's very likely that we'll be using WP MU so any info you can provide about this will help. Thanks.

Re: The best gadget I stole in 2008

Robert, take a look at the Kodak Zi6 before you buy the Flip Mino HD. The Zi6 uses AA batteries instead of the Mino HD's built-in rechargeable, has a larger screen, and records to SD flash media - all for less money.

Re: Facebook Connect now available on Disqus

Looks like it's because you've chosen to only allowed registered (Disqus) commenters to post.
