Otherwise, you will have to stump up the money for them.

Re: [Insert another 'SpinVox bashing' post here]

I love the service. I've loved it since 2003 when they first opened for business. I can't imagine ever using voicemail again. If Spinvox disappears, I think I'd just switch voicemail off.

However I'm not so sure about the management. And the way they've handled this one. I'm disappointed in them. So the jury's still out on that one for me. They've got a lot of fires to fight at the moment so I'm willing to give them some time to work it out. Then I'll make a judgement call.

In the meantime, Keep Calm and Carry On.

Re: Musings of a mobile marketer: The Tanla Guide to Mobile Marketing and Advertising

Aha, you're quite right. In addition, at the time you also got a voucher for money off a new pair of trainers. However this promotion and offer is now quite old so I've no idea how well (or not) the handset did or what the feedback was on the micoach program.

Re: “MIR should go camping” - what do you think?

seems little point in pursuing this now since any content created will be behind a subscription.
Oh well. What level of browsing, gmail, twitter, facebook does that give you? It might be easier to lobby for Virgin to make it clear what 25MB actually means than get them to up their limits.

I also think Virgin have to show customers when they're near their limit so they can choose to curtail their mobile internet usage so that billshock isn't the result.

Of course, if it could be aggregated over a month so that the charge was 30p a day up to a maximum of £9 a month or something it would be better.

It's very frustrating that mobile tariffs are so complex. How anyone is supposed to work it out is beyond me :/

Re: Virgin Mobile: More abuse of the word ‘unlimited’

The full tariff table is here http://is.gd/dbd5

Re: 30 peas

It's a shame you can't actually get the whole internet for 30p a day as there's an annoying 25mb limit per day. The tariff is definitely a step in the right direction, but the daily limits and the ways it's worded are still a bit misleading and it could all still end up in billshock. Which is a shame.

Re: Christmas Prize Draw is back!

Hurray! Yes, the small print is annoying and how you work out your megabyte usage anyway is a mystery to me and definitely to normobs. But looking at Terence's comments, it's going to be quite hard to kill your phone datawise unless you're downloading full fat video all day.
Also, how do you define 'work' email? Are they going to check every email in my gmail account then to work out which one is a work one and which is not?

Seriously though, 30p a day is a great start, with no contract, makes mobile internet usage much less scary for the average prepay normob in the street. A step in the right direction for sure.

Re: Mobile marketing, has it crashed and burned?

I think we're asking the wrong question. Isn't it 'Marketing, has it crashed and burned?'. And as a result, we have to change or die.

Mobile marketing and advertising will only be successful when it's used properly. It's not so much about the channel as to how it's used (this is applicable to any channel actually). And increasingly, mobile will be the key channel via which marcomms (short for Marketing Communications - there's a clue in the name) happens. Ultimately it's about communication and this is two way in our networked 2.0 world. And that's still a tough call for many businesses to get their heads round as they've previously left their marketing agencies to have the external conversations whilst they focus on making widgets, chocolate or whatever.

Re: Disqus and Windows Live Writer

thank you for taking the trouble to clarify that :)
I look forward to Blogger making things a bit easier.

Re: Disqus and Windows Live Writer

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly but I'm slightly surprised with your response as it's rather terse. The people in this forum have bothere to look up and ask if there's something we can do about this and you're just saying 'no'. I don't believe that 'no' is any sort of compromise or way forward to getting a problem like this solved.

Perhaps you can clarify, whether or not you have opened dialogue with them and what, if anything happened? Is there anything we can do as a community? Are there workarounds?

You're trying to give us tools to build communities around our blogs. It seems to me this could be a good opportunity to walk the talk and for us to collectively try and find a way through this.

Just my 2p.

Re: Disqus and Windows Live Writer

Yup, I'm having the same problem. Just as I, and my readers, were getting in to the disqus thing, I switched to Live Writer (which is brilliant btw!) and it's reverted. 'ilovemobileweb' suggests domain agnostic and the whole conference is domain agnostic therein lies the confusion. And it seems a shame to exclude some great mobile services out there that are m.abc.com as opposed to abc.mobi.

I am disappointed that no-one from Informa has got in touch with me re female representation - either on the blog, by telephone or via email. That is most definitely an oversight on their part. I hope it is just that, an oversight, rather than a reflection of a 1.0 culture.

Re: Location Based Services - are they all missing the point?

Thanks Nick. I do hear along the grapevine that companies and brands are making better use of their text to win type data and are putting some intelligence behind it - but this is still tactical and promotion related and is not linked in with strategic communication AFAIK. The challenge is that for a large company to do anything beyond the basics adds resource and if you add resource that equals time and/or money and maybe at this stage, it's just not necessary.

I've been following the Strongbow cider campaign on my phone which, allegedly, is location based but even that, despite good intentions, didn't really work for me. When I texted in to get my voucher in London's West End, there were no bars where I could go get my free pint. When I texted in from my home address, the nearest pub they texted me back about was one a) I never go to and b) is a 30 minute bus journey away.

It is very likely that there were no bars in London's West End that were participating in the offer as West End boozers don't necessarily need the help a promotion like this will bring, but it just leads to customer disappointment.

I've saved all the messages so if I get round to it, I'll do a bigger write-up on the promotion.

Re: Location Based Services - are they all missing the point?

Thanks for that. And I agree with your premise re the two-step process. Maybe it's more than two-steps anyway.

Google may well be in a position to do something about this but the data in there is not intelligent per se and I'm not sure how they could get the intelligence in there. I guess there'll be some brainy engineers in Google or wherever thinking it through though!

On the privacy point though, I totally agree with you. It needs to be secure and you need to be able to protect yourself from unwanted stalking -whether that's from an individual, a business, your local government or your employer. There has to be real value in it for the consumer and maybe that's the bit that hasn't really been thought through well enough [yet]?

Re: Location Based Services - are they all missing the point?

Hi Ajay
Thanks for your comment and what you're doing at Sense Networks looks *really* interesting.
