Otherwise, you will have to stump up the money for them.

Re: [Insert another 'SpinVox bashing' post here]

Well said Helen. I couldn't face going back to checking VM. I_just_couldn't. It would be like going back to dialup. Or a rotary dial phone.

I'll give them a month to pony up the goods, but after that I just could not in all good conscience support a service that is a) very useful to me but b) [apparently] runs sweatshops and can't talk to me straight. The danger of engaging the way SV has is that when you let people down, it disappoints and angers much more than if you hadn't engaged in the first place.

James is a great guy, as I'm sure most of the SV team are. And no-one wants to be in an industry that exploits people. This said, the laptop I'm typing this on, the clothes I'm wearing, the diesel in my car and the beads my kids are playing with are probably, at some stage, tainted by exploitation of people with no other choice but to take the coin.

If I take my money and give it to - er - the local pub, then what of the call centre staff? Will they go on to a much better job? Or is the only alternative a Primark/Wal-Mart/Mattel hell-hole? What does that do to my self-justification? Am I being a bit too middle-class-hand-wringing-noddy here? Who do I/we think we are?

Gaa. I'm confused. FFS, SV management, pull finger and turn this train-wreck around. Or put it back on the rails. Whatever. Don't just sit there like a bunch of stunned mullets while your very useful business goes down the tubes for want of good comms.

edit: right, I'm off to try Vox Sciences. I suspect they might melt, but this has to be the best possible leg-up they could possibly get.

/m

Re: [Insert another 'SpinVox bashing' post here]

*Points Up* What she said.. :)

Re: [Insert another 'SpinVox bashing' post here]

I love the service. I've loved it since 2003 when they first opened for business. I can't imagine ever using voicemail again. If Spinvox disappears, I think I'd just switch voicemail off.

However I'm not so sure about the management. And the way they've handled this one. I'm disappointed in them. So the jury's still out on that one for me. They've got a lot of fires to fight at the moment so I'm willing to give them some time to work it out. Then I'll make a judgement call.

In the meantime, Keep Calm and Carry On.

Re: Musings of a mobile marketer: The Tanla Guide to Mobile Marketing and Advertising

Aha, you're quite right. In addition, at the time you also got a voucher for money off a new pair of trainers. However this promotion and offer is now quite old so I've no idea how well (or not) the handset did or what the feedback was on the micoach program.

Re: “MIR should go camping” - what do you think?

Oh I don't know. What level of browsing, gmail, twitter, facebook does that give you? It might be easier to lobby for Virgin to make it clear what 25MB actually means than get them to up their limits.

I also think Virgin have to show customers when they're near their limit so they can choose to curtail their mobile internet usage so that billshock isn't the result.

Of course, if it could be aggregated over a month so that the charge was 30p a day up to a maximum of £9 a month or something it would be better.

It's very frustrating that mobile tariffs are so complex. How anyone is supposed to work it out is beyond me :/

Re: Virgin Mobile: More abuse of the word ‘unlimited’

The full tariff table is here http://is.gd/dbd5

Re: 30 peas

It's a shame you can't actually get the whole internet for 30p a day as there's an annoying 25mb limit per day. The tariff is definitely a step in the right direction, but the daily limits and the ways it's worded are still a bit misleading and it could all still end up in billshock. Which is a shame.

Re: Christmas Prize Draw is back!

Hurray! Loved it and agree... but...

30p is only a great deal if it is unlimited. 25MB is so low as a per day limit (note: it's not an average over a month) that consumers need to monitor use on this tariff even more carefully than the existing monthly ones.

Re: Virgin Mobile: More abuse of the word ‘unlimited’

30p a day is *revolutionary* and a great step forward bearing in mind it was only on Monday I was begging the operators to stop having silly tariffs [ video and blog post about it here http://technokitten.blogspot.com/2008/11/there-... ]. Yes, the small print is annoying and how you work out your megabyte usage anyway is a mystery to me and definitely to normobs. But looking at Terence's comments, it's going to be quite hard to kill your phone datawise unless you're downloading full fat video all day.
Also, how do you define 'work' email? Are they going to check every email in my gmail account then to work out which one is a work one and which is not?

Seriously though, 30p a day is a great start, with no contract, makes mobile internet usage much less scary for the average prepay normob in the street. A step in the right direction for sure.

Re: Mobile marketing, has it crashed and burned?

I think we're asking the wrong question. Isn't it 'Marketing, has it crashed and burned?'. And as a result, we have to change or die.

Mobile marketing and advertising will only be successful when it's used properly. It's not so much about the channel as to how it's used (this is applicable to any channel actually). And increasingly, mobile will be the key channel via which marcomms (short for Marketing Communications - there's a clue in the name) happens. Ultimately it's about communication and this is two way in our networked 2.0 world. And that's still a tough call for many businesses to get their heads round as they've previously left their marketing agencies to have the external conversations whilst they focus on making widgets, chocolate or whatever.

Re: Disqus and Windows Live Writer

thank you for taking the trouble to clarify that :)
I look forward to Blogger making things a bit easier.

Re: Disqus and Windows Live Writer

Sorry if my post sounded terse; my post was done from my phone and brevity comes off badly many times. I promise it was friendly. :)

I agree that this needs to be indicated in our help documentation because the issue comes up often. I would very much like this to be resolved, but it's been difficult for us to get in contact with the people who can fix this. I will continue seeing if we can address it.

Again, this isn't something we are ignoring -- it's just something we can't immediately solve ourselves without the help of Blogger.

Re: Disqus and Windows Live Writer

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly but I'm slightly surprised with your response as it's rather terse. The people in this forum have bothere to look up and ask if there's something we can do about this and you're just saying 'no'. I don't believe that 'no' is any sort of compromise or way forward to getting a problem like this solved.

Perhaps you can clarify, whether or not you have opened dialogue with them and what, if anything happened? Is there anything we can do as a community? Are there workarounds?

You're trying to give us tools to build communities around our blogs. It seems to me this could be a good opportunity to walk the talk and for us to collectively try and find a way through this.

Just my 2p.

Re: Disqus and Windows Live Writer

This is an issue with Blogger and external blog editors.
