I am looking over the Locale documentation - it seems to me
that it only allows you to create plugins that act on its events. Which
means that I could create a Locale plugin that would send EventGhost events,
but not create an EG for Android plugin that sends events to Locale if that
makes sense :) I'll have to look into it for more, but great suggestion.

Re: louisgray.com: RSS Overload: Don't Complain, Do Something About It

Giving up an RSS reader is a horrible idea. It's like saying you are no longer going to watch the news, you are just going to rely on friends to tell you what happened. How do you know they are going to give you the info you are looking for? However, I have also finally convinced myself that I do not need to read EVERY article in reader.. just read until you don't want to read anymore - when your done, MARK ALL AS READ.

Re: Windows 7 doesn’t need to dazzle

I like your article Steven, but for me... it does need to dazzle. I was so disappointed in Vista, as was most (hence the re-upping of the availability of XP) - I am increasingly not liking what MS is doing with its UI.. overall and the ribbon.. I already dislike what I see with the task bar. They've made promises that never came (hopefully will this time). I am worried, because not only am I not convinced by Macs (due mostly to pricing, but also compatibility), but now I am losing faith in my main OS. It also irks me that Windows users go years with nothing but security patches.. throw us a bone every few months! I've attempted the jump to Linux in the past, but it just isn't there yet either. I am starting to feel like I am going to be between a rock and a hard place in another couple years. At least I have my Android phone! :)

Re: louisgray.com: How to Discover New Content

I agree with Zee... It is simple to setup, 5GB free, and built in remote desktop.. I wish there was a few more configuration options than there are, but overall, it works. Interested in seeing the Mac client progress, a Linux client, and a wider variety of mobile support.

Re: HTC Touch HD- Next Generationn of the HTC Touch

I'm not big on the 4 button layout at the bottom, but I love they're sticking with this screen size for the smartphones.

Re: Need Some Wordpress Help : Users

If you don't want to allow users at all, it's under Settings (General) - you will see a Membership section for 'Anyone can register' - just turn that off.

Re: Prevent a Disaster! I certainly appreciate there are other services out there, and I myself am still looking at a few.

I am still searching for the holy grail of backup, with syncing, sharing, cross platform compatibility and pricing aspects. In my opinion, SugarSync comes the closest, just missing on the pricing and sharing flexibility.

Feel free to continue to post alternates or any news of updates or enhancements for the listed services.

Re: The bookmarking system on FriendFeed

Yuvi, you might be able to view more than 900 if you keep it in Google Reader? ;)

Re: The bookmarking system on FriendFeed

Great idea! Many times I forget to take advantage of the fact that you can access your friends likes. Think I will now go through all of my subscribers likes rss feeds into a Google Reader Group. On the same token, you can easily track your friends comments on FriendFeed in Google Reader as well doing the same thing.

Re: Getting social with bookmarking on FriendFeed.

Not at all Laura. Typically the rooms are an off place to share and comment, away from your standard feeds. However, FriendFeed recently allowed users to add RSS feeds to a room, so that all content from that feed will automatically be entered into the room. The feeds are added by the administrators of the room, hence why Mike has asked you to provide him with your URL.

So, if I was to track bookmarks for everyone entering this "experiment", I would need to subscribe to all of them (and I would see all of their other content as well). Now, I can join this room and see what bookmarks others have to offer (possibly leading me to other subscriptions).

Re: Prevent a Disaster! IDrive <http://www.idrive.com/> is another possible choice. I
did check it out, but found it missing some features I wanted (although to
be fair, almost all of the services were missing one thing or another). They
do have a 2GB free plan though if anyone wants to check them out.

Re: New FriendFeed Yahoo Pipes

Shey,

You can, however, the problem becomes where to look. If you were talking
about that, the only place to look would be in the "everyone" feed. Since
the results are currently limited to ~1000 entries, you might not get too
many results. That might be more suited for a "monitoring" type
application, similar to summize for twitter - check out
http://spy.appspot.com/ - that service might be able to add the options to
not search for entries/comments/likes.

Re: louisgray.com: Could UDO Be The Next Killer App?

http://bluetooth.com/Bluetooth/Experience/ ?

Re: Line and Pie Charts Made Easy!

the pie chart does have the option for 2d or 3d when you run it.

Re: Which Linux Distributions Are Dying?

Everyone here hits nails on the head... I still try out a number of distros on a regular basis, but I stick with Ubuntu.. for now. I'll go ahead and say it.. there is still a long ways to go in usability for Linux in general. I still find myself at the command line 75% of the time (yes, that is a downfall for me on an OS. Not that it is available, but needing to rely on it). But maybe that's just me - or maybe I need the right distro ;) I also agree that hits for 'ubuntu' vs. hits for 'linux' shows nothing... this could just mean as mentioned that people now tend to search for their distro name instead of the general linux term - because you tend to get more specific results for your distro. Add linux along with any other distro names together and I just see great numbers and advancement for linux.

Re: My thirty eight editors on Friendfeed.

sarah and mike, both added.

Re: louisgray.com: What I Believe: My 10 Web and Blogging Expectations

Excellent rules for anyone.
