That seemed to be the most popular retweet formatting when I wrote the post. Lately I have seen a number of Twitter clients that built-in RT leave the colon out.

Thanks for bring that up.

Re: Web Applications and Society

Thanks Saurabh. That's a great way of looking at it.

The analogy continues to work when you look at the way teams almost always loose when they switch to defense to protect a lead in the 4th quarter.

Re: We Dont Need to be Noisy to Create Noise

Sucker! But I bet quite a few managers in these companies are actually repressed leaders. In any case, it will be fun to watch. And I will continue to encourage anyone with the slightest desire to try to go for it.

Re: Leadership, Management and Acquisitions

Founders play a huge role in companies they are leading. All the examples you threw out are people that are running the businesses they founded. I was speaking specifically to the founders of acquired companies moving from a leadership roll to managing a group inside another organization.

Re: Leadership, Management and Acquisitions

Very smart comment Rahmin. And thanks for posting Umair's quote I sent via twitter here. You are spot-on about the connection between these pieces.

If the press coverage Google receives is to be at all believed, they should shed some light on the scalability of taking risks and innovation. They have supposedly baked in taking risks to the core of their business. It will be interesting to watch if the fear of loss (or pure scale) kills off taking risk in the end.

If anyone else has other good examples of companies to watch in this space, I would love to see them posted in the comments.

Re: Leadership, Management and Acquisitions

Hey Seth... Thanks so much for the comment. As I mention in the post, I have been a big fan for years. Though, until reading Tribes, I didn't know about your Yahoo! acquisition. Great stuff.

Re: Are You Retweetable?

Agreed, for the most part on the RT stuff, but an (RT @user http://posturl) at the end of a tweet wouldn't kill it entirely. Besides the RT is more about forwarding a concept to people following you than giving your take on it. Two tweets might make the most sense in that case. RT the message in the first tweet and give your comment in the second. Something like "CO: " for Comment On (or "RE: " to follow the more standard reply format) might work as well; but it would need wide adoption for people to understand what is going on.

Also agreed on the platform comment if you define "platform" as the service itself, it's evolving usage by end-users, and 3rd party offerings built around the core system. Those are changing very frequently. The service itself is remaining relatively consistent -- which is fine if they weren't limiting what services like Gnip can re-syndicate. Due to this last factor, it is starting to feel to me that it is a bit to important to be a service as opposed to a standard (like email)... In any case, it is fun to watch it evolve.

Re: Are You Retweetable?

The problem with that is that it loses the RT function. I get what you're saying, but I don't think it has the right affect. Sooper neat to watch this platform grow though, isn't it?

Re: Should I Sell My Startup?

Great point David.
