Spend a day on Xbox Live and you'll hear much of the same out of the mouth's of 10-15 year old kids. Where are their parents? Even worse, do their parents CONDONE such talk? In the end it comes down to "ignorance" and I've said it before: I feel pity for those who live their lives with such hatred and ignorance - their lives must be a miserable existence to have so much rage. Their parents must not have been the caring and compassionate people that I've been lucky to have, to raise me with kindness in my heart and teach me that we're all equal, regardless of race, religion or gender. I honestly feel sorry for these people.

Re: gReader Comments

This isn't working for me - in Google Reader it just says 'array.' If he truly has that perception of the black community, then I feel sorry for his ignorance. He must live a miserable life being so detached from reality.

I'm also glad he was exposed for who he really is and Corvida took the stand she did, opening eyes and ears. The biggest shock to me through all this has been the fact that only recently was there a big ruckus about this guy and puppets. Puppets. THIS was out there, but people focused on puppets. Do it all with your Google identity OR Facebook identity -- then comes option "C" identity or option "D" identity. Then the whole process starts over again. While I'm sure they would love to become the standard for everyone, no service ever will be, thus will always be fragmentation and the need for a FriendFeed. Ubiquity on the Internet simply doesn't happen. Email is another example. I can think of many reasons Gmail is the best service and everyone should be using it, yet I still get email from yahoo, hotmail and aol accounts, though Google offers a "near perfect" service.

Re: The changing face of FriendFeed.

You made a great point about FriendFeed being (at its most basic) a blog. You can post about what's interesting to you and people can discuss it.

What's the difference? Accessibility. You can skim, and hit with a like simply from the title or you can read or look at the entry and start a conversation. If things are interesting enough to a group, the likes and comments can keep it on top or it just fades into obscurity - that is, until one of your friends sees it and bumps it back up for another pass. It does all of this seamlessly and fast. You can tell this was started by ex-Google folks as it maintains the simply and fast UI that made (in my opinion) Google popular.

Re: Is FriendFeed Doomed?

Jarred, I have to think that FriendFeed will only become more useful over time as they add more services to the fold. New sites and applications will continue to persist, with and without integration with Google or Facebook to pull it together, which is where FriendFeed comes in. As I follow my "friends" they do not have to add me to their new service, only add their service to be followed on FriendFeed. Every time I personally sign up for a service, I dread the "be my friend again" email that I need to send out to connect with friends from other services.

As best as I can tell, you're right in both ways, FriendFeed does fragment the web, but no site (Google or Facebook) can be the end all, be all for social interaction, so FriendFeed is a necessity. So while it may be counter-productive, it is far from doomed.

Good post though. You give a good counterpoint to those who feel the opposite with their religious following of FriendFeed and its progress.

Re: Are social news sites like Digg useful anymore?

Digg lags so far behind my FriendFeed that it's hardly useful to me.

Re: FriendFeed Hand-Wringing

Anyone who has posted anything of substance has probably had this feeling. I think it's natural that we want others to "share" in our thoughts, as that helps us affirm our feelings on a subject.

I recently wrote on my own blog that we're each a "brand" now, but it shouldn't be something that we should have to put much work into. Just be natural and express yourself and as you've noted here, those who want to share in your ideas will do so.

Great post, and very well put.

Re: The Blogosphere’s Changing Opinions on FriendFeed

I consider it akin to listening to the radio or having CNN on in the background while you work. There is a significant amount of "noise" in both of those. Songs or items that may not interest you, but you listen to catch the things you ARE interested in.

Now, granted, the examples I gave are more passive in nature than being active on FriendFeed, but you must come with it with the same attitude in hopes you'll catch those interesting items.

Re: How Seesmic will communicate with partners and users

Shaun, it's the fact that the downtime of Seesmic also caused the blogs that had it integrated to go down.
