My prediction is the web app will go forward, & not be blocked, & but at 10% the user base the iPhone native-app would get. (Primarily due to loss of app-store advertising: sure the tech community will figure it out, and Google might advertise in other apps, but I suspect that reaches a small % relative to app-store advertising.) Second prediction is approval of the iPhone-native app in the app store is still going to be a while. (Not tomorrow, not next month.) Grab a <your favorite candy bar here>.

Adobe Air applications could easily be developed that syncronize settings across all installs. I suppose it is not high on TweetDeck's priorities; I don't know why.

Is TweetDeck's lack of syncronization your concrete complaint?

If so, Live Mesh (one of the "online syncronization" technologies) can fix that... and it fixes the same issue for almost any desktop app that doesn't do its own syncing. Search for it. Desktop apps are getting better, even without updates. Maybe that's why it's not on TweetDeck's priorities, and it's one reason why desktop apps are NOT dead.

The lifestreaming features weren't on web yet at the time of this writing (Nov 25 2008); client apps were the only thing available. They're up now (Dec 3 2008.) Give it another shot!

I'd pay him his $3.99, if it didn't require the install of iTunes. Gas might fall to $3.99 gas but, silly me, I want an electric car instead of a gas-powered car.
