First step is to check for power, then to check if the machine will boot. If it won't get power, the problem is generally more dire (but still, could be something simple and inexpensive - you don't know until you start swapping out parts).

Given that the AC adapter light didn't turn on, I'm starting to suspect the DC-in board (maybe the battery connector, but not terribly likely). Neither are expensive at all, and you'd probably regret replacing the machine over one of those.

Good for them to set expectations that it could be a logic board, though - if it's not one of those minor parts, it'll probably be a logic board.

Re: To the FTC that whole Trust Agent thing is nonsense

I agree that there are misuses on either side of the fence. Under the FTC guidelines because gadget sites like Gizmodo have an on-going association with manufacturers they will have to start displaying a disclosure notice with each post. Where it gets really interesting is if that same disclosure is going to have to be applied to old posts - since as we know even year old posts can gain new life.

Re: Kindle available in over 100 countries

Oh I don't put all the blame on Amazon here. I appreciate that people can get a little heated - hell I'm guilty of that but that doesn't mean that blatant insulting of other commenter's is tolerated - if only here. First off thanks for taking the time to post such a great reply - I appreciate it.

I'm not sure what part of my post your first point is in reference to because I have no problem with you guys making money from the conference.

To the second point my only problem (and it's not really a "problem" per se) is that TC50 is suppose to be about the startups and DemoPit and when companies like Google and Microsoft make announcements I worry that depending on what they are announcing they could overshadow and take away attention form the starts. To be honest what I remember about this year's TC50 is Bing's Visual Search and Google's Fast Flip.

I can understand the reasoning but I just hate to see attention taken away from the whole reason for the conference in the first place - the startups.

Re: No amount of social media will save ‘bad’ companies

As much as the social media gurus would love everyone to think that every company should be hopping on the bandwagon there are definitely a lot of companies that this makes no sense for but I doubt you would hear a single 'expert' tell a company that is willing to sign a hefty contract that they don't need to do this.

Re: Calling out Gabe and Techmeme over favoritism and censorship

Duncan has had a few posts on his personal blog about Techmeme
http://www.duncanriley.com/2007/05/11/techmeme-...
http://www.duncanriley.com/2008/08/02/techmeme-...

Re: Calling out Gabe and Techmeme over favoritism and censorship

As I said to Corvida even cranky old farts have their limits and since writing at The Inquisitr I have seen this happening over and over - at some point my frustration just bubbles over :)

And you are right - if I felt there was any justification to what Gabe says I wouldn't be writing there but Duncan has always been fair and more than honest with me and that is all someone can ask for.

Re: Calling out Gabe and Techmeme over favoritism and censorship

see my reply to Gabe.

Re: Calling out Gabe and Techmeme over favoritism and censorship

He made it obvious with his reply Karoli that he has no intentions of changing anything - which doesn't surprise me.

Re: Calling out Gabe and Techmeme over favoritism and censorship

After a year of seeing this kind of shit happening even a cranky old fart has his limits Corvida :)

Re: Calling out Gabe and Techmeme over favoritism and censorship

Yes I do know what it is Gabe - it is when a person, or group, decides what they want people to read. The moment you went from a pure algorithmic selection of post for listing to one that was human edited (even slightly) you are bringing in human bias. Granted even algorithms can be manipulated but the human decision making process makes it a lot easier to select what it printed and what isn't.

No-one is asking for a guarantee only fairness - which you have decided not to do by your own admission - which by the way also backs up and suggestion of censorship because you yourself stated that at no time will you allow any Inquisitr story to appear on Techmeme - that is censorship.

Manufacture news ... linkbaiting?? Oh give me a fucking break . so snappy headlines about yet another iphone story or Twitter earth shattering news on TechCrunch that is so tweaked in order to pull in reader is a news post and yet if Inquisitr does it it's linkbaiting. Pfft. It's okay for other major blogs to post "questionable" posts and yet The Inquisitr makes up stories .. give me a break.

The Inquisitr is no more "poisonous" than any other blog. Every tech blog out and every old media newspaper through their online version that appears on Techmeme has at one time or another fucked up - some correct themselves others don't.

As for working for someone else .. I doubt very much that anyone would be willing to better my current current working conditions Gabe - either in money or editorial freedom.

Re: Some folks I would like to see do e-books

my tentative title was "My Crazy Bang The Head Against The Keyboard Journey Through Social Media" so take it from there what it would be about :)

Re: Blogs to tell you things you don’t know

I thought at one time about something to do with balloons but the reasoning behind going with 'bubbles' was because we constantly talk about living in a bubble or being full of hot air so after talking with Chris Brogan and Alexander van Elsas they helped center around the idea of shooting holes in those hot air filled balloons - hence Shooting at Bubbles.
