You are spot on about the promo video, it showcases a simple scenario but the website and pricing structure in fact suggest large business teams or some wealthy subset of the general population. Hopefully the bad press will make them reconsider their pricing and switch to a freemium model similar to Dropbox.

Re: http://blog.mikeambs.com/post/3640779376

What made you choose the 60d versus the new t3i?

Re: http://blog.mikeambs.com/post/3698261301

Thanks for your advice and honesty in answering. Whenever I've asked this before people have been either been too vague or overly specific towards one way of doing things.
One of the reasons why I asked this question is because
I can relate to being interested in more than one thing and you seem to be the same way, which is why I wanted your perspective. Filmmakers I've talked to in the past have always been passionate about film and only film since childhood, so it has been hard to relate. For the longest time I have actually avoided committing myself to film because I've had no support and thought that if it wasn't exclusive nothing would come of it.
Only in the last year, after being unemployed for like six months and having so much time to think and reflect, did it finally occur to me, that just being on set has made me feel far happier than any of my other interests, so any involvement at all is worth it. During that time I stumbled on one of your Kickstarter campaigns and started following your work, because you're very talented, but also because you are so open and honest about the process, which makes you relatable. Having followed your journey makes your advice that much more valuable because you as they say have been eating your own dog food, so your advice is honest and free of bias or presumption. Anyway enough with the rambling, I just wanted to say thanks for the advice and good luck on your own journey.

Re: http://blog.mikeambs.com/post/3507681517

Personally this would appeal to me as an end of life type thing, like I'm 70 or 80 and think I've lived a pretty good life, why not just choose to go into space instead of waiting to die on Earth?

Re: http://blog.gowalla.com/post/3518407141

Sounds awesome! Are you thinking more like YouTube annotations for the rest of us or something more dynamic, akin to opening titles animation sequences?
Either way you are probably looking at using the HTML5 Canvas element to embed some video which ends with what is essentially animated and hyperlinked text. Take a look at the bottom of this page http://www.html5rocks.com/t... for an idea of what Canvas can do with the Video tag. Another option is using combinations of CSS and SVG, which just for animation Sencha has an incredible tool which would fit the bill just right http://www.sencha.com/produ... For general overview of how to implement HTML5 check out http://diveintohtml5.org/
Might give this idea a whirl myself, very useful and (hopefully) simple implementation.

Re: http://blog.mikeambs.com/post/2139326586

Made one from Facebook photos, which aren't too many but enough to be fun. http://youtu.be/34oVP01ADr0
These are really fun to watch, it is almost like watching a Twitter photo stream of one person.

Re: http://blog.gowalla.com/post/2145749447

Great partnership! Currently we are into connecting with each other and business is working hard become part of the conversation, all the while looking for ways to monetize of course. With an information versus promotional model of interaction everyone gets to participate at their own pace and depth of desired engagement. As computing becomes ubiquitous being able to control and disconnect from technology will become that more important. This also reminds me of a conversation at BarCamp Atlanta last week, where we talked about needing a consumer authorization or requirements for interaction model into the communication protocols of the future. Who's to say the next step for Google Goggles or Facebook face recognition isn't to automatically tag everyone in their massive image archives?

Culture generally lags behind technological developments so having a tech solution to something that generally would fall under legislation purview would be likely. Maybe projects like Diaspora are the first steps in handing some control back to consumers. Obviously it will be very interesting how this all affects personalization, because some of these issue are technological hurdles, while others are cultural, legal and even psychological.

Anyway, great post and discussion!

Re: The third wave

Within the context of where we have been with the web your arguments make a lot of sense. Specially when it comes to advertising and commerce in general, the push will surely be away from spam style broadcasting to personalized and dedicated information sources. What influence do you think ubiquitous computing will have on the third wave ? For example, will personalized advertising simply become contextual information, like product placement or will it become another more insidious form of spam?

Re: http://blog.gowalla.com/post/1543028787

Really stoked and little bit jealous to see European users getting some love, rock-on Gowalla!

Re: http://filmgirl.tumblr.com/post/1133236956

Every avid book reader that has seen me with my iPad and asked me to compare it to the Kindle, say afterwards they would rather just stick with physical books, if the feature set of the device is so slim.
