Cost and length of service issues. Catapult requires steam for old systems, or massive increase in generator capacity for newer Electromagnetic type.
As evident by the massive cost and time over runs on the US carrier, the electromagnetic systems aren't reliable or ready.

Dennis, hi there and apologies but I'm seeing something slightly different from reports below.

insideEAv: OAuth2 EmpireAvenue authentication and password settingGet profile info
Could not get ticker from EAv (API calls left: 146)
Login unsuccessful

I'll give it a day or so before I do anything, but I was going to try and remove authorisation from my 3rd Party Apps on EA, and then have it re-authenticate to see if that made a difference (just in case the recent API change has invalidated the token at EA.

Twenty four years ago (damn I wished I hadn't just worked that out and said something like a while back), anyway twenty four years ago that's the same game my wife and I played. As I was serving in the Royal Navy, I'd have to phone a lot when away and one of us would always end the call with "Ok, moneys running out, I just have to say I...." click... end of call... Damn, "money running out", that shows my age again, I bet you don't even remember having to put coins in a slot to make phone calls to your "loved one"... Your post gave me such a smile when I first read it, now I've just realised how old it's made me feel... Cheers for reminding me of 'dem days, but on the plus side, it's also reminded me of just how much more I love my wife these days.

Am also glad you're not just throwing the "L" word around, you'll know just how right it is the first ever time you both say it to each other.

To think I'm sat here at home with a 64bit 860 i7 Intel core, with 8Gig of ram, with a 1 Gig HD 5770 Radeon Video Card, 8 TB of HDD . From little acorns, great oaks and all that...

So if you do want to do more and therefore host your own WordPress, then why not go with WordPress from the start?
You'll not have to change your editing habits, (or learn a new UI).
You'll already be up to speed with how the system works too.
And with the sheer number of WordPress plugins out there and the ease by which new ones can be created, and then consider the infinite theming options with WP. It has to be WordPress all the way.

Avoid Blogger like the plague if you're serious about getting into Blogging... More bugs than a Pixar movie.
Posterous is "ok", but I'd still put my money on WordPress any day of the week.

That's all very well when you have a niche market or niche term such as "Chippenham Removals".
It's a different story when you move into bigger target areas.
But, to be fair, you are not going to be targeting UK wide search when you run a removals company based in Wiltshire. The point being as the OP states, you do your market research first, find out what your target audience is using, and you target those terms.
The short and most definitive answer is that you make sure that any SEO company you hire uses 100% Whitehat SEO techniques and you avoid all those that employ BlackHat techniques.
The good companies will get you ranked high, and your site will stay ranked high, but as to how long that will take will be determined by the market place you are entering.
As Sarah says, what if you are launching into the Photography or Balloon market place? How do you move into an established area? You do it by researching the competition and you do things better than them. You build up your reputation (both as a business but more importantly in SEO terms, you build up your domain reputation). Just do what the opposition do, but do it better and in time you will rank higher. It is that ethos that ensure that the web develops as we all continue to improve our sites. Google for instance wants to direct its users to the best sites because that earns them the most money. So by creating an environment of "continual improvement" that helps them. So bearing that in mind, ensuring that your SEO company employs Whitehat techniques will ensure the long term success of your SEO campaign (aka your website). There is no one off SEO bundle of tricks, SEO should be applied to your site continually over time.

I'd say I have to agree with 99% of the above especially the "Facebook too big to fail". What it will provide though is a method to supply a local alternative to Facebook upon your own domain under your own control. Though it claims to be an FOSS alternative to Facebook, IHMO they are chalk and cheese (i.e. two different things). Facebook is what it is, Diaspora will grow into something else over time...

You should also have "Internet Bigamist", especially since I'm sure I'm already "internet married" to @kelliesimpson. Mind you, there is the slight issue that I suspect she doesn't actually know about it yet.
You'll also need "internet stalker" since there are millions of those little buggers.

Come to think of it, who says we can't have more than one "internet marriage"?
It works for some cultures (and religions).

And how would an "internet marriage" differ from a real marriage? You'd be physically separated by a few 1000 miles in most cases, so just like a 'real marriage', the sex would be the same. (i.e. in ones head or non-existent). (Am trying to avoid getting into a "virtual relationship" scenario here).

Would "internet marriage" work better than 'real life marriage'?
I certainly know some couples who would actually talk more.
But then the potential for "internet nagging" would be exponentially massive which is a far more scarier thought.

And as for point #24, you should try moving from the UK to Fort Worth, TX, live there for 3 years and then move back again to the UK. Sheesh, I still can't warm up after 6 years back in the UK. (I'll be back in the US once I get my back sorted if it's the last thing I ever do).

Ok, I've got it to obey the 'no comment' and 'page' by adding a new line.

Edit the Disqus code, and locate

if ( ! (is_single() || is_page() || $withcomments) ) {
return;
}

Above the "if ( ! (is_single() || is_page() || $withcomments) ) {", add the following:

if ( ('closed' == $post->comment_status) || ('page' == $post->post_type)){
return;
}

Save the plugin and it should work.
Don't forget to clear any cached pages if you have a cache plugin.

I've not tested this fully yet, but it appears to work.
I have a sneaky feeling the code

if ( ! (is_single() || is_page() || $withcomments) ) {
return;
}

is incorrect, (or cut and paste from a different plugin) as I can't see how it would work.
I can't find reference to is_single() and is_page(). It sort of rings a MoveableType bell in my head, but I'm not certain on that.

Try it and see if it works for you. I will ping Giannii and see what he says.
