Where I grew up, different is pronounced diffrent. The "er" sound is gone, changing from diff-er-ent to diff-rent. Same for separate, becoming sep-rate instead of sep-ar-ate. It's fun how different areas pronounce the same words differently.

Re: Question of the Day

Take me with you.

Re: Et tu, Bing?

Out of pure curiosity I just used my Android to do a voice search for "abortion" "abortion clinic" and, to be more specific, "planned parenthood austin". All of which lead me to a black page that simply said "Moved Temporarily". I'm not sure what that means, maybe it was just a glitch in the system, but it was odd.

Re: The Prosperous Writer Prompt is…Ethical

Great prompt for the week! It's just required. But they don't actually want to get married, so they have to be dragged into it. By the women, who spent months plotting ways to force the guy to propose in the first place through sneaky and passive-aggressive means.

And I learned it all from watching TV and movies!

Re: Award-winning teachers dole out advice on fixing public schools

The school system was created to build quiet, obedient, factory workers. To really fix education, we need to tear down the entire system and rebuild from scratch using a more organic learning base. Think Sudbury schools, or the ideas of John Holt and John Gatto.

Re: #LastTweets: Mysteries created and solved in 140 characters

"Well that looks like fun."

Re: Four Simple Goals (Before 2011)

Sounds simple enough. :)

Re: Oklahoma: A House Divided

There's a third group, the ones who are shamed into dark basements and never allowed to see the light of day. I'm betting they either plled that number ot of thin air, or just decided that every woman who had an abortion is damaged by it. Speaking as someone who has had an abortion, and is a member of several groups for women to share, the vast majority of the "emotional damage" comes from A) the circumstances leading to the abortion, B) the reactions of others to the abortion. The rape scenario, as you mentioned, but also being screamed at by strangers that yo are an evil whore who deserves eternal punishment. 'Cause when you're rising that hormone roller coaster, which also comes after birth and miscarriage, any little insult can trigger you.

Re: Back To What?

I'll admit, I love for this time of the year. Crayons and paper and pencils and pens and folders and notebooks, oh my! I can stock my entire craft supply closet for a few bucks. Ch-ching!

But the actual "school" part. Eh. It's actually kind of sad, my poor boys are going to be LONELY all day when their neighborhood friends are gone all day. :(

Re: God Hates Jedi

According to Megan Phelps, who is on Twitter and said this, they love Nerds, but as sad that the nerds are worshiping comics. When my partner and I went to buy our previous cell phones, the local store only had what we wanted in stock in green, blue, or red with flowers. I very clearly stated that I wanted the blue one, and the clerk still brought me the red with flowers. Then made a pouty face and whined "But I thought you'd like this." when I refused. I'm sorry, I didn't realize being female meant I automatically have to love flowery things. Gag.

Re: Quote of the Day

Wah, wah, wah. Back in high school, one day my boyfriend and I were sitting in my truck talking in front of my house. I laid down, with the back of my head against his fully clothes lap. My mom walked out and started freaking out that I was, in her mind, giving him a BJ right there. The fact that my face was towards her and his pants were done up never stopped her.

Re: A Tale of Two Health Care Systems

When mine had a real, honest, fucking heart attack he made do without a trip to the hospital because time off work was too much and insurance hadn't kicked in yet.
